TEAM REBRANDING

The Phoenix Suns uniforms changed how NBA teams would look as the league moved into its’ ’90s golden era.  NBA VP, Creative Director Tom O’Grady met with Suns team owner Jerry Colangelo who challenged the O’Grady and NBA to create a “Modern Classic” a new look which would look unique back in 1992 while remaining interesting enough for the next 25 years.  O’Grady use the familiar Phoenix Suns bold purple and bright orange, and added touches of black, along with a bold streaking sun as a diagonal sash on the jersey tank top, which has become one of the most popular uniforms not only in the NBA but sports globally. This cutting edge design was made possible with the introduction of Adobe Photoshop as the graphic design tool and dye sublimation as a uniform fabrication technology which at the time was a a revolutionary breakthrough in sports team uniform design.
