EXPANSION TEAM IDENTITY

Tom O’Grady worked with owner Bob Johnson to create the NBA’s 30th expansion team’s new identity. As the second NBA expansion team in 14 years, the Charlotte market challenge was creating a unique, relevant look which would feel fresh to NBA Charlotte basketball fans. The Charlotte Bobcats represented the third successful NBA expansion team O’Grady developed in his 13-year tenure as NBA Global Creative Director. The NBA Canadian expansion teams, the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies were also designed during O’Grady’s run at the NBA and these two teams continue to appeal to basketball fans a quarter century later.
