NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
TEAM REBRANDING

In 2001, O’Grady Sports Design Founder Tom O’Grady, had the great pleasure of working with Gordon Gund, Cavaliers owner on rebranding NBA Cleveland franchise. At the initial meeting with the Cavaliers, O’Grady presented a series of brand DNA club iconic symbols including a sword and Zorro-type swash “C” secondary logo which over time has become synonymous with the team and the city of Cleveland. The relaunch of the Cavaliers in 2003-04 coincided with their #1 pick in the NBA Draft, LeBron James, who went on to become a global basketball superstar.
