NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
TEAM REBRANDING

When Jazz owner Larry Miller tired of his team’s association with their previous New Orleans Jazz identity, he decided an entire rebrand was in order. The Jazz were impressed by the 1993 NBA All-Star Game logo and event branding O’Grady oversaw and reached out to him to explore the possibility of changing their logo and uniforms. After being unveiled in 1996-1997, the Jazz “purple mountain majesty” uniforms are arguably one of the most popular, if not occasionally polarizing team uniforms in NBA history. In 2019-2020, the team brought back the purple uniforms receiving enormous positive reaction from Jazz and NBA fans who want to adopt the vintage uniform as their full time home uniform once again. The unique color scheme is one of O’Grady biggest creative breakthroughs during his 13-year NBA run.
